Pedro Sánchez-Murcia

is a medicinal chemist with sound expertise in computational chemistry. He is leading the Laboratory of Computer-Aided Molecular Design and the research unit Molecular Factory, where computational methodologies like molecular dynamics, quantum mechanics, and artificial intelligence are put in practice to design, express and test peptides, proteins and enzymes with special properties for therapeutics. Additionally, his group also run virtual screening campaigns to identify new species. Within TRPC.at, he models TRP channels to understand their pathophysiology and to design for novel photopharmacological modulators. He collaborates with Schindl and Tiapko (evaluation of modulators of various TRPC-channels in neurons and over-expressed TRP channel in HEK cells), Olschewski/Nagaraj (evaluation of TRPC-modulators in the regulation of vascular tone in pulmonary hypertension), Malli/Gottschalk (evaluation of TRPML1-modulators in lysosome-mitochondria crosstalk); Bacsa/Bärnthaler (evaluation of TRPC6-modulators for the inflammatory response in eosinophiles) and with Holzer/Curcic (evaluation of TRPC6-modulators for cardiac remodeling in cardiomyocytes).
